 Castello is the largest of the six sestieri of Venice and stretches from San Marco and Cannaregio in the west, to the islands of San Pietro and Sant’Elena in the east.

This district in Venice is formed from a group of islets that lay between the Grand Canal and the deep water Guidecca Canal.

Cannaregio is the northernmost and the second largest district of the city of Venice.  It also has the largest population, of around 11,000 people.
