Castello: District and Attractions
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri of Venice and stretches from San Marco and Cannaregio in the west, to the islands of San Pietro and Sant’Elena in the east.
Dorsoduro: District and Attractions.
This district in Venice is formed from a group of islets that lay between the Grand Canal and the deep water Guidecca Canal. It also includes the long and narrow Guidecca island.
Cannaregio: District and Attractions.
Cannaregio is the northernmost and the second largest district of the city of Venice. It also has the largest population, of around 11,000 people.
San Croce: District and Attractions
San Croce and the Tronchetto; lay mostly on land reclaimed in 10th century Venice. The area was once part of the Luprio swamp.
San Polo: District and Attractions.
One of the smallest districts on Venice, it derives its name from the Church of Saint Paul Evangelist.
San Marco: District and Attractions
This densely built district of Venice, includes many of most famous sights and was the location of Venice’s government and from 1807 onward the religious centre.
